The popular little blue pill by drugmaker Pfizer, has racked up nearly $1.8 billion in sales each year since it was introduced in 1998. But the hype surrounding another drug Cialis, which is produced through a joint venture between Eli Lilly and Icos, has started a friendly competition between the two erectile dysfunction drug producers.
Both drugs are able to help men with erectile dysfunction achieve and maintain an erection. While Viagra (sildenafil citrate) boasts about being the first marketable drug to treat erectile dysfunction, Cialis gives men a much longer time to experience erections.
Cialis has put quite a twist on erectile dysfunction drugs when Eli Lilly introduced it and announced that it could help a man obtain and maintain an erection for up to 36 hours versus Viagra’s four hours. Eli Lilly has also developed what is called Daily Cialis. This can be taken as part of a man’s daily regimen, the dose is cut down to 2.5mg’s and constantly remains in the bloodstream offering an amazing breakthrough. While Cialis is sometimes called the "weekender" it can now offer restriction free options in regards to sexual activity. A man could now get erect anytime if sexually excited or stimulated.
Cialis and Viagra are both PDE5 inhibitors and both host the same side effects and conditions to determine eligibility for taking the drugs. Viagra, nicknamed the "little blue pill" and Cialis, nicknamed the "weekender." Comparing Cialis and Viagra just a bit more, in 2004 $1.7 billion worth of Viagra was sold. In that same year $272 million was sold of Cialis. Viagra has opted to use a spokesperson for their drug but Cialis chose not to use one at all. There is no real price difference between Cialis or Viagra but Viagra is known for lasting about four hours and Cialis is known for lasting up to 36 hours. Google hits reflect that more people are searching the web for Viagra than for Cialis.
There is much evidence to indicate that Cialis is catching up and may soon surpass Viagra. In France Cialis has already knocked the socks off of Viagra. Viagra has more of a reputation since it has been effective and around for longer than Cialis. There is no doubt that Viagra has been trusted by millions of men but Cialis offers spontaneity to millions of men because it gives them that 36 hour window to play with and they are no longer stuck having to give it their best shot within four hours.
